TEETH WHITENING
At-Home Teeth Whitening Gel Instructions
Follow these simple steps to achieve a brighter smile safely and effectively.
Before You Begin:
- Brush and floss your teeth to remove any debris.
- Make sure your whitening trays are clean and dry before use.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Whitening Gel:
- Remove the cap from the whitening gel syringe.
- Carefully apply a small, tiny bead sized amount of gel into each tooth
compartment of the tray from your first molar to the other first molar (inside front
of the tray only-the surface that will be facing the front of your teeth). Avoid
overfilling.
2. Insert the Trays:
- Place the trays over your teeth, ensuring they fit snugly.
- Wipe away any excess gel that may come in contact with your gums using a
clean tissue or cotton swab.
3. Wear Time:
- Wear the trays for the recommended time as directed by your dentist.
- i. Start with 4-5 hours per session.
- ii. If no sensitivity develops then proceed to wear the whitening trays
overnight for you next session.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while wearing the trays.
- Repeat this for 2-3 days consecutively.
- If sensitivity develops, discontinue whitening for a few days until it subsides. If
you desire a whiter shade, then you can continue the same cycle of wear
mentioned above.
4. Removing the Trays:
- After the recommended wear time, remove the trays and rinse your mouth
thoroughly with water.
- Clean the trays by rinsing them with cool water and brushing gently with a
toothbrush.
5. Post-Whitening Care:
- Avoid consuming staining foods and drinks (such as coffee, tea, and red wine) for
at least 24 hours after treatment.
- Brush with a non-abrasive toothpaste and maintain good oral hygiene
- i. Look for toothpastes with RDA (relative dentin abrasivity) values of 70 or less.
- 1. For example, Sensodyne ProNamel (non-whitening varieties)
- Avoid acidic foods (e.g., citrus, tomatoes, soda) for at least 24-48 hours after
whitening to help prevent sensitivity from developing.
Additional Tips:
- Use the whitening gel only once a day.
- If you experience sensitivity, reduce usage frequency as mentioned above.
- Store the whitening gel in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Another great
option is storing unused gel in the refrigerator.
Caution:
- Do not use the whitening gel if you have open sores, cavities, or gum disease.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Avoid swallowing the gel.
